"Jamboree in the Hills" is touted as the "Superbowl of Country Music" and is held in Morristown, Ohio which is literally 1 mile down the road from my in-laws' house. Scott has told me about it for years but since we're not fans of Country music (and lived in Florida) I never paid much attention. This year one of the acts on Saturday evening was The Steve Miller Band so we decided to head down to Joe & Donna's for the night. It was our first full family trip in the Pilot and I'm happy to report that it was a very comfortable ride - Josh sat in the middle row and Kody had the whole back seat to himself. Granted, having the 3rd row seats up didn't leave much room for luggage but luckily we didn't have much for an overnight trip.
"Jambo", as it is referred to, is such a huge annual event that they broadcast it on one of the local TV stations. We turned it on sometime on Saturday afternoon and quickly realized that there was a whole new level of Redneck going on there... Hillbilly-Redneck. People camp out and party for days (even a whole week) and you're allowed to bring coolers with you down towards the stage so it was a drunken mess. The highlights of the people we saw on TV were the guy dressed up as Santa, another guy dressed up as the "Jambo Warrior" in the same face paint as the deceased WWE wrestler the "Ultimate Warrior" and the 5 guys wearing watermelons on their heads with holes cut out for their eyes and nose. I'm telling you, it looked nuts.
So, we decided NOT to try and venture the 1 mile down the road to see Steve Miller. Instead we watched it in the comfort of the living room on my in-laws' giant HD TV. We probably had a better viewpoint this way anyway. At least Scott got a Willie Nelson t-shirt for $10 at a souvenir booth at the gas station on our way home today.
